PM Imran extends heartfelt congratulations to new Sri Lankan counterpart

PM Imran lauded the progress made by Sri Lanka during Rajapaksa’s two terms as the president.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan in a telephonic conversation congratulated Mahinda Rajapaksa him on his appointment as Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

He lauded the progress made by Sri Lanka during Rajapaksa’s two terms as the president.

PM Imran took to Twitter and expressed, “Heartiest congratulations @PresRajapaksa on your being appointed Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. I am looking forward to working closely with you & your Govt to further develop our historical friendship & partnership & find avenues for deepening cooperation between the two nations.”

PM Imran expressed his desire to work closely with his Sri Lankan counterpart to further strengthen Pakistan-Sri Lanka bilateral relations in all dimensions.

He also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to visit Pakistan.

In reply, Sri Lankan premier expressed gratitude towards PM Imran and said, “Thank you Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI for the warm wishes. I look forward to working with you and your government to better the relations between our two nations.”

The Sri Lankan prime minister thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for his felicitations and said he looked forward to working together to further strengthen Sri Lanka-Pakistan relations.

On Nov. 19, Prime Minister Imran Khan in a telephonic conversation congratulated the newly-elected President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa on his election as the 7th President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister said that the election reflected the trust reposed by the Sri Lankan people in the leadership and vision of President Rajapaksa.

He hoped that the country and its people would achieve greater success and prosperity under President Gotabaya’s stewardship.

The excellent Pakistan-Sri Lanka bilateral relations were also discussed. The two leaders reciprocated each other’s desire to further fortify bilateral cooperation in diverse areas.

The Prime Minister extended a cordial invitation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience. President Rajapaksa accepted the invitation.
