PML-N's delegation led by Malik Nadeem Kamran submitted resignations in the Punjab Assembly today.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – More than 100 ‘disgruntled’ Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) members of the standing committees of the provincial assembly of Punjab on Thursday submitted their resignations in protest against rejection of the appointment of assembly’s opposition leader Hamza Shehbaz as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman and non-issuance of production orders of their members.

Reportedly, PML-N’s delegation comprising of Malik Nadeem Kamran, Chaudhry Iqbal Gujjar, Sami Ullah Khan and Zeeshan Rafiq collectively submitted the resignations of the PML-N members to Director General (Parliamentary Affairs & Research) Mr Inayatullah Lak at the Punjab Assembly secretariat.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamran said: “Today is the black day in the history of Punjab parliamentary affairs when members in such large numbers have resigned from the standing committees.”

He further lashed out at the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for not issuing production orders of PML-N members of assemblies.

“Until PTI members were in jail, production orders were being issued […] a ‘formula’ was fixed between the opposition and the government that Hamza Shahbaz would be appointed as PAC chairman; however despite of assurances, it has not been implemented,” he said.

“Now, we have taken an extreme step […] the standing committees will not have any political or moral status for [performing] legislation,” he added.

“We have also spoken to [Pakistan] Peoples Party’s parliamentary leader Hassan Murtaza and he had assured to support us after consultation with the party’s leadership,” he went on to say.
