Heavy rain lashes Lahore, jams traffic in adjoining areas

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Heavy monsoon rain lashed Lahore and its adjoining areas in the wee hours of Tuesday. The incessant rain has flooded roads and streets in many parts of the city which stopped many vehicles mid-way.
Rainwater entered houses in several low-lying areas of Lahore while parts of the city witnessed power outage as more that 150 LESCO feeders tripped soon after the rain started.
Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar personally drove to the affected areas and reviewed the drainage arrangements and problems of people after heavy showering. He also gave lift to children and women stuck due to rain. He further directed the district administration and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to get water out of the roads.
Rain was also reported from other parts of the countries including, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha, parts of Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara Zhob divisions and Gilgit Baltistan.
According to Met Office, rain-thundershower associated with gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Kashmir, Islamabad, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore divisions, while at isolated places in Malakand, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu, Zhob, D.G.Khan and Sahiwal divisions during next 24 hours.

Rain-thundershower/windstorm with isolated heavy falls is expected at scattered places in Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir, while at isolated places in Malakand, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu, Zhob, Multan and Sahiwal divisions.Hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Rainfall over the country as a whole for monsoon, 2019 (July-Sep) is likely to remain near normal.
Normal to above normal rainfall is expected in upper half of Pakistan due to strong incursion of monsoon currents and their interaction with westerly weather system. Extreme weather event is also expected during the period and may cause flooding in the rivers and its adjoining tributaries.
Slight to moderate, below normal rainfall is expected in the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan.
Average temperature is likely to remain 2-3 C above normal in the plain areas of the country
