Police investigates assassination attempt on Mufti Taqi Usmani

After spraying bullets at his car, the assailants escaped from the spot towards Safora Chowrangi.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Initial evidence in an ongoing investigation into the assassination attempt on 74-year-old Mufti Taqi Usmani suggests that attackers had formed two teams to attack on his car on Sharae Faisal in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Karachi.
It is being anticipated that the first team chased Taqi’s car from the Korangi Industrial area while the second team followed him from Dalmia area.
After spraying bullets at his car, they escaped from the spot towards Safora Chowrangi.
The investigation team has also used geo-fencing on surroundings of Rashid Minhas Road and Dalmia areas and collected data of six mobile phone towers which can be helpful in the investigation process.
Renowned religious scholar and the Federal Shariat Court former judge Mufti Taqi Usmani escaped an attempt on his life on Friday while he was heading along with his wife and grandchildren to his traditional mosque in Karachi to deliver the Friday sermon.
The assailants opened fire at his car and as a result a police guard, Farooq, who was sitting on the front seat and the driver, Habib, were martyred.
