Mufti Abdul Raoof, Hamad Azhar among 44 taken into preventive detention

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In a crackdown against banned organizations, the government has taken at least 44 members in preventive detention for investigation.
They include Mufti Abdul Raoof and Hamad Azhar --- the brother and son of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) leader Masood Azhar, respectively.
"In order to implement National Action Plan (NAP), a high-level meeting was held in the Ministry of Interior on March 4, attended by all representatives of all provincial governments," said a statement by the ministry.
"It was decided to speed up action against all proscribed organizations. In compliance, 44 under-observation members of proscribed organizations, including Mufti Abdul Raoof and Hamad Azhar, have been taken in preventive detention for investigation," it maintained.
"These actions will continue, as per the decisions taken in National Security Committee (NSC) while reviewing NAP," concluded the ministry.
Addressing a news conference along with Secretary Interior Major(R) Azam Suleman Khan in Islamabad on Tuesday, Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi asserted that Pakistan s land will not be used against anyone or any country and it will not allow others to intervene into our affairs.
He maintained that actions are being taken against all proscribed outfits without any discrimination. The Minister stressed that rule of law will be implemented in New Pakistan.
Afridi told that the action was taken in light of the decisions made during National Action Plan committee’s meeting.
