SIALKOT (Dunya News) – Street crimes have stigmatized the overall performance of police in Sialkot, Pakistan’s 13th largest city located in north-east Punjab, as a significant spike has been observed in crime rate in 2018.
Reportedly, 140 people were murdered in the incidents of home burglaries, minor disputes, snatching at gunpoint and old enmities in 2018.
Moreover, 75 women were raped while many suspects are still at large.
Besides, according to police record book, a total of 14,202 cases have been filed.
Residents of the city have lost millions of rupees so far in the incidents of armed robberies, kidnapping for ransom and thefts.
Furthermore, police have failed to curb drug menace in the subdivision.
Citizens expressed dissatisfaction over police’s performance and pleaded with the higher authorities to reconsider the overall situation for a possible improvement.
