IMF delegation visits NEPRA headquarters to discuss increase in power, gas tariff

IMF delegation is currently in Pakistan for talks to finalise a bailout package.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation on Thursday visited the headquarters of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to discuss strategy to increase power, gas tariff and circular debt.
IMF delegation led by Herald Finger met NEPRA Chairman Tariq Saddozai and review the schedule regarding withdrawal of Rs146 billion subsidy on power being given to the domestic consumers.
Heads of the various departments of NEPRA attended the meeting and briefed the delegation over the performance of the country s power sector, including power generation, transmission and distribution.
It is pertinent here to mention that IMF delegation is currently in Pakistan for talks to finalise a bailout package.
The delegation reached Pakistan on November 6 and began technical talks with high level officials from November 7 that will continue till November 20.
Pakistan is expected to seek $6 billion from the international lender.
Finance Minister Asad Umar on Wednesday said the government was going to avail the 19th programme from IMF and it will be its last.
"We are going to take 19th IMF programme. This would be the last IMF programme of Pakistan," the finance minister said, while speaking to a private news channel.
