Fazl said Nawaz would inform about his participation after consulting Shehbaz Sharif.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman Sunday said he met former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to convince him to participate in a potential multi-party conference.

Talking to reporters, Fazl said he discussed the prevailing political situation with the PML-N supremo. “Nawaz Sharif said that he would inform about his participation in the APC after a meeting with Shehbaz Sharif,” he added.

The JUI-F chief said the PML-N supremo shared his view that the current political situation called for a multi-party conference. “Incumbent government came to power under a fake mandate,” he added.

Fazl once again rejected the Civil Aviation Authority’s statement that an Israel plane did not land in Islamabad, saying the news reports regarding Israeli plane have spread concern among the nation.

The JUI-F chief said that his party rejected the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) denial, adding that a campaign should be started to inform the nation about this.

The main agenda to the conference is to form a grand opposition alliance against Prime Minister Imran Khan-led federal government.

Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had agreed to attend the conference hosted by Maulana Fazl.

However, the PML-N supremo had expressed reservations regarding role of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. Sources privy to Punjab-based party told our correspondent that Nawaz is seeking some sort of guarantee from Fazl in this regard.
