ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court on Tuesday has issued notices to 8,000 people including the then Chief Minister of Punjab Nawaz Sharif in a three-decade old case regarding illegal construction of shops over land of sufi saint s shrine in Pakpattan back in 1985.
During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar and defence lawyer Iftekhar Gillani exchanged harsh words. The top judge questioned, "Under what law were shops built on the shrine land?"
The defence lawyer said that it’s inappropriate that the court is declaring the notification unconstitutional after passage of 29 years; over this the CJP reprimanded the counsel and said the court is responsible for supremacy of the Constitution.
The hearing of the case has been adjourned for indefinite time period.
