Iran to build up to 10 new uranium enrichment facilities

The Iranian government has approved a plan to build 10 new uranium enrichment facilities in defiance of UN demands that it halt the programme. The decision comes only two days after the UN nuclear watchdog agency censured Iran, demanding it immediately stop building a newly revealed enrichment facility near the holy city of Qom and freeze all uranium enrichment activities. According to the Fourth Development Plan (2005-2010), Irans nuclear power plants should eventually generate up to 20,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually, so the administration should supply the power plants with the needed nuclear fuel by establishing new enrichment plants, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said. We have a friendly and compassionate approach toward the entire world, but at the same time, we will not allow one jot of the Iranian nations rights to be trampled upon, the president asserted. Russian Minister for Energy Shmatko is on an Irans tour in this regard while US has termed the decision of constructing new plants a violation of UN resolutions.
