OPDs reopen, Army Corps doctors deployed

Outdoor Patient Departments (OPDs) in most of Punjab hospitals reopened on Monday.

After days of suffering amid young doctors’ strike, now there is some relief for the patients in Punjab hospitals as army doctors assumed duties at Outdoor Patient Departments (OPDs) on Monday.Punjab government spokesman said around 150 doctors from the army and newly inducted adhoc doctors are attending the patients. He said all possible measure will be taken to ensure provision of necessary health care facilities to people.On Sunday night, more than 40 doctors were arrested after the Punjab government approved a massive operation against the protesting doctors.At least five patients lost their lives across Punjab when the doctors on duty deliberately left them in the lurch to show solidarity with arrested members of YDA.Punjab government spokesman said nobody will be allowed to take law into hands and create hurdles in provision of healthcare facilities to the patients.Senior doctors along with staff of Army Medical Corps are now attending patients at Lahore’s Meo Hospital.Medical services have also resumed at Allied Hospital in Faisalabad. In Multan,15 military doctors are serving at Nishtar Hospital.
