Carroll quits Liverpool to join West Ham

Carroll became Britain's most expensive player when he joined Liverpool from Newcastle.

 

LONDON (AP) - Andy Carroll has ended his disappointing spell at Liverpool by signing for fellow Premier League side West Ham for a reported club-record fee of 15 million pounds ($23.5 million).


The 24-year-old Carroll became Britain s most expensive player when he joined Liverpool from Newcastle for 35 million pounds (then $56 million) in January 2011 but he failed to establish himself at Anfield and was sent out on loan to West Ham last season.


The towering England striker has now completed a permanent switch to the east London club on a six-year deal, with West Ham having the option of a further two years.


Carroll scored seven goals in 24 games for West Ham last campaign.
