KARACHI (Dunya News) - At a press briefing, Caretaker Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar said that despite various challenges, the interim government remained focused on the country's economic stability.
Dr Akhtar emphasised that the government was not reacting with panic as it was well aware of the changes on the horizon.
The finmin pointed out that the government had been in office for three months and had already witnessed improvements in the country's economic condition, attributing these positive changes to the strategic measures and initiatives aimed at bolstering the economy.
Addressing the complexities of economic recovery, Dr Akhtar underscored that it's a challenging task, particularly considering global challenges like the ongoing Ukraine-Russia dispute.
She further said that upon assuming power, the caretaker government faced a tumultuous economic landscape, but swift and decisive steps were taken to set the nation back on the path to recovery.
The caretaker minister also noted that there is currently an optimistic trajectory in the economy, with a focus on promoting industrial development. The minister highlighted the stabilisation of the national currency, the decline of the dollar, and successful measures taken by law enforcement agencies to curb smuggling.
Furthermore, the caretaker finance minister informed that the government was actively addressing illegal transactions and committed to its ongoing participation in the IMF programme. While acknowledging that inflation remains a problem, she assured that efforts were under way to bring it under control.
