War on terror: Pakistan suffered $70 billion loss

At least 35,000 Pakistanis lost their lives due to terrorism from 2004 to 2010.

Nineteen militants of Al Qaeda hijacked four American planes on 11 September 2001. The hijackers rammed two of the planes into twin towers of World Trade Centre in New York and the third one was collided with the Pentagon building in Virginia. The fourth plane was crashed in Pennsylvania. At least 3,000 Americans were killed during these terrorist attacks. The then US president George W Bush announced to start a war against terrorism.The United State-led forces attacked Afghanistan on October 7, 2001 to start a war against Al Qaeda and two years later Iraq war started in March 2003.US spent $4 trillion on war against terror in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq in the past ten years. At least 225,000 people lost their lives during the war whereas 6,000 US soldiers were also killed.At least 14,000 Afghans were killed during war against terrorism.Pakistan suffered more human loses than Afghanistan and from 2004 to 2010, at least 35,000 Pakistanis died in different incidents of terrorism.Before 9/11, only one suicide attack occurred in Pakistan but after the start of war against terrorism, at least 300 suicide attacks occurred in Pakistan which killed 4,600 people and injured more than 10,000.Pakistan sustained $70 billion losses during this war while US only provided $20 billion in this regard.Despite spending trillions of dollars and loss of more than 225,000 lives, the situation did not change and Al Qaeda not only expanded its network in different countries but also was able to establish itself in Yemen and many parts of Africa.
