Session Judge Shabbir Hussain Awan had summoned the accused on polices request.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) has on Wednesday approved 15-day remand of six suspects involved in Sahiwal incident, and handed them over to police.

Session Judge Shabbir Hussain Awan had summoned the accused on police’s request after 19 days. The suspects were presented before the court under strict security and their faces were covered with black clothes.

The judge had initially approved a 5-day remand. DSP Falak Sher, who is also a member of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), requested the court to extend the remand owing to security reasons in frequently moving the accused. The appeal was upheld.

It is pertinent here to mention that the CTD officials had killed four people, including a couple and their teenage daughter, and injured a teenage son in a suspicious ‘encounter’ on GT Road near Sahiwal.

The incident had triggered a nationwide outcry that prompted the government to take the security officials into custody and order an investigation into the incident.

The suspects were identified as Shahid Jabbar and Abdul Rehman travelling towards Sahiwal and were reportedly in possession of arms and explosives, CTD stated.

The counter-terrorism officials claimed that the operation was conducted to capture an ‘Islamic State (IS) commander’ on a tip off by an intelligence agency.
