ECP hands over material for presidential poll to POs

ISLAMABAD (APP) – The Election Commission of Pakistan has handed over election material to all presiding officers for smooth conduct of Presidential election on Tuesday (September 4).

Talking to media, Additional Director General Public Relations (ECP) Nadeem Qasim said that the electoral roll copy will be available at every polling booth while the secrecy of the ballot has to be ensured by the parliamentarians.

He said that the ECP had issued presidential election schedule on August 16 and started accepting nomination papers on August 27 while the scrutiny process was completed on August 29.

He added that out of total 12 nomination papers, eight papers were rejected while four were accepted by the commission. After one candidate Ameer Mauqam’s withdrawal from candidature, three candidates including Aitzaz Ahsan, Arifur Rehman Alvi and Fazlur Rehman were in the run for the slot.

Qasim said that the polling for the election of President of Pakistan will be held at the Parliament House in Islamabad and provincial assembly buildings of all the four provinces. The polling will start at 10am and continue till 4pm.

He said that the Ministry of Interior has been asked for managing security arrangements on polling day. He added the Pakistan Rangers and local law enforcement agencies will provide security.

He said that on completion of time, the presiding officers will start counting and prepare result on Form-5. Later, the Chief Election Commissioner who is also a returning officer will make available all documents to complete the Form-5 and forward the result to the federal government.
