PML-N, PPP to meet to finalize joint presidential candidate
PPP Khursheed Shah said that the option of two presidential candidates is in favour of government.
LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will meet in the evening today (Sunday) to finalize joint presidential candidate.
Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman will meet former Punjab Chief Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shahbaz Sharif today meanwhile the leaders will also meet PPP leaders to consider the joint presidential candidate.
On the other hand senior leader of PPP Khursheed Shah has said that the option of two presidential candidates is in favour of government.
He commented that being politicians we should be optimistic to promote the political awareness, he added, trying to finalize one candidate for slot of president.
Khursheed Shah said that co-chairman of PPP Asif Ali Zardari, PPP’s Qamar Zaman Kaira are supporting Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan.
He expressed hope that Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman will accept the request to withdraw as candidate for the slot of president.
Khursheed Shah will also meet Shahbaz Sharif in the evening.
It is pertinent here to mention that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced to hold presidential elections on September 4.
According to a schedule issued by the ECP, nomination papers could be filed with the presiding officers in Islamabad and at the commission’s provincial offices on August 27.
Voting for the election will be held in the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies from 10:00am to 4:00pm on September 4.
