Sheikh Rasheed, JI leader demand resignations of FBR, NAB chiefs

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief of Awami Muslim League, Sheikh Rasheed and leader of Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded of chairmen of Federal Board of Revenue and National Accountability Bureau to tender their resignations after Supreme Court grilled both for not probing assets of premier’s family on Tuesday.

Reaction of the two political parties has come in today after chiefs of the two institutions appeared before bench of the top court today in hearing of Panama Leaks case.


NAB, FBR chairmen appear in Supreme Court


Sirajul Haq said that it proved today that government’s institutions held only the poor accountable and not the affluent persons.

Sheikh Rasheed demanded of the chiefs of the national institutions to tender their resignations for not probing the premier. Fawad Chaudhry, representative of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said that the Supreme Court educated chiefs of FBR and NAB about their jobs.

A corruption reference against premier Nawaz Sharif’s family is being heard in the apex court over petitions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Awami Muslim League and Jamaat-e-Islami.

The case was taken up by the court last year.

The development had come in after Panama Papers published documents of a Panama-based law firm in April 2015 following a leak in its database revealing establishment of shell companies by over 400 incumbent as well as former leaders of different states.

Icelandic Prime Minister resigned after the revelation while in Pakistan, opposition stroke consensus initially and demanded Nawaz Sharif to do the same however, later an offer of the government was accepted according to which a parliamentary committee was set up for formation of joint Terms of References for the probe.

TORs were never finalised as several meetings of the 12-member committee failed to have all participants agree on terms.

The apex court later on took up the case and the hearings are ongoing.
