Main accused, cousin of the slain woman has claimed innocence in a social media message

RAWALPINDI (Web Desk) – One of the key suspects in murder of Hina Shahnawaz has been arrested on Monday while three accomplices held in Kohat.

Shahnawaz was gunned down in Astarzai area of Kohat on February 6 allegedly by her cousin, Mehboob Alam as he conservatively objected to her holding a job.

District Police Officer of Kohat, Javed Iqbal announced arrest of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, one of the main suspects besides nabbing of three alleged accomplices in Kohat.

Alam, the alleged murderer claimed his innocence in a video that was uploaded on social media on February 13. Reportedly, family of the slain worker of a non-governmental organisation in Islamabad, avoided disclosure of the murder but a First Information Report was lodged over social media attention.

DPO Iqbal had reported during initial probe of the incident that late Shahnawaz received four bullets that claimed her life.

Pakistan witnesses thousands of cases of violence against women every year. Cases are lodged against rape, acid attacks and so-called honour killings across the country.

Reportedly, Shahnawaz earned Rs 80,000 a month at an NGO in the federal capital and supported her mother, sister-in-law after her father and brother lost their lives.
