SC suspends SHC's decision to remove Ayyan Ali's name from ECL
The hearing was held on appeal of customs by a three member bench headed by Justice Aijaz Faisal.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday suspended Sindh High Court’s (SHC) verdict to remove Ayyan Ali’s name from Exit Control List (ECL).
The hearing was held on the appeal of customs by a three-member bench headed by Justice Aijaz Faisal.
Custom’s lawyer Farhat Nawaz Lodhi adopted the stance that interior ministry listed Ayyan’s name in ECL through memorandum which can be challenged but Ayyan accepted the decision by not filing any appeal against the decision.
Interior Ministry will also challenge the verdict which permitted to remove Ayyan’s name from ECL, he said.
Ayyan’s lawyer Lateef Khosa argued that appeal against the memorandum can be made in 15 days but her client came to know about the inclusion of name in ECL after three months which clearly shows the malicious intent of customs and interior ministry.
The court after hearing the arguments deferred the hearing till next week and has sought a written reply from Ayyan’s lawyer.
Ayyan Ali was booked in March last year at Islamabad’s Benazir International Airport for attempt to smuggle US $506,800 to United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Airport Security Force (ASF) had apprehended Ali before she allegedly boarded a private airline flight.
After almost nine months of her arrest, the model was indicted in the currency smuggling case but she pleaded not guilty to the charges.
A trial into the case is still underway.
