Traders demand to extend Rangers' power in Karachi
Merchants further urged to reform police department and recruit further hiring on merit.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Traders on Saturday have demanded to extend Rangers’ power in Karachi and stated that political recruitments have made police department corrupt.
Traders said that long-term peace can be attained only by the deputation of Rangers as the operation against criminal elements, launched in 2013, has calmed the residents.
They said that the families along with their children have started moving to the markets, restaurants and recreational places without any fear.
Merchants demanded the local administration and federal government to ensure Rangers’ deployment for long time in order to free Karachi from terror activities.
They further urged to reform police department.
Earlier, Supreme Court (SC) had dismissed Rangers’ report about the granting of more authorities and suggested the Sindh government to take the matter to the apex committee. Remarks given by the Supreme Court stated that the Rangers should make demands that are within the limits of the law.
The Rangers’ lawyer filed another application regarding an increase in their powers.
The application states that powers should be granted to the Rangers on annual basis. Furthermore, it has been added in the application that not granting authorities such as thaana, First Information Report (FIR) and challan registration cannot ensure peace and stability in Karachi.
