First phase of water project 'K-4' to kick off in Karachi
The plan will take 10 years for the completion of all the three phases.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – The authorities have assured to start the construction of Karachi’s biggest water project ‘K-IV’ in current month, reported on Thursday.
The project, jointly shared by both provincial and federal governments, is being built with a total estimated cost of Rs25.5 billion.
The much-needed project that will provide 65 crore gallons of water daily to the Karachiites was announced about 10 years ago but the plan faced delay due to various reasons.
Last year, the federal government officially inaugurated the first phase of the ambitious water supply project by allocating Rs 2.20 billion. The phase will approximately take four years for its completion.
According to Managing Director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), 11,000 acre land has been reserved for the purpose while the construction would be started in the current month.
The plan aimed at taking water from Keenjhar Lake via three canals.
In first phase, 26 crore gallons of water would be able to supply to Karachi till 2018 while almost 10 further years required for the completion of all the three phases. The city will face water dearth till then.
