Suspect Rashid Baloch alias Cheechi had escaped from Karachi after Rangers' operation.

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – A key member of Baba Ladla group was arrested during a joint raid conducted by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) in Bhana Mari area of Peshawar today (Saturday), Dunya News reported).

Suspect Rashid Baloch alias Cheechi had escaped from Karachi when paramilitary Rangers launched crackdown against criminals in 2013.

He was wanted for involvement in target killing and other criminal activities.

Rashid Baloch was traced after he renewed his Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) from NADRA office and submitted a form to obtain new passport in Peshawar.

The accused will be handed over to Karachi police after investigation.

On the other hand, Karachi police today killed two alleged robbers including Farooq Chooha, the leader of Tiger Group believed to be involved in major bank robbery incidents.

Alleged bank robber Farooq Chooha

SSP Special Investigation Unit Farooq Awan told reporters that Tiger Group has been eliminated from the city. He said leader of the group Farooq Chooha and his accomplice Imran were killed in exchange of fire in Korangi area.

Karachi is Pakistan’s largest and richest city, home to the central bank and stock exchange, a major port and some of the most violent areas of the country.

Many of its sprawling slums are split along ethnic lines, and political parties have been accused of backing armed groups that have carved the city into spheres of influence, a charge they deny.

A major military operation, launched in 2013, is credited with slashing Karachi’s murder and kidnapping rates. But the clampdown has drawn protests from opposition politicians who say their party members have been targeted.
