The fatal road mishap that occurred on February 10 in the morning has claimed 18 lives so far while more than 20 were left injured.

Earlier, a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) rammed into a car and the gas leakage fueled an inferno engulfing the vehicle and nearby buildings near Sheikhupura’s Mananwala.

Two other school rickshaws at the scene of accident also caught fire, injuring some schoolchildren also.

Sub-inspector Zahid Khan geared up the investigation into the matter after registering case against gas tanker’s driver and owner at Mananwala police station.

Deadly accidents are common on roads across Pakistan due to bad road infrastructure and rampant disregard of traffic laws.

Over 9,000 road accidents are reported to the police every year, killing on average around 5,000 people, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
