Religious scholars vow to wage jihad against terrorism

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Over 5,000 Ulema (religious scholars) have vowed to wage jihad against terrorism, sectarianism and religious extremism with the power of argument and forging unity among their ranks, the Radio Pakistan reported. 

The Conference titled ‘Message of Islam Conference‘ was organized by Pakistan Ulema Council in Islamabad.

Addressing the conference, Chairman PUC Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi urged Ulema to spread the message of Islam across the globe.

Grand Mufti of Palestine Muhammad Ahmed Hussein lauded Pakistan‘s persistent support for the cause of Palestine.

The Conference also lauded efforts of Prime Minister and Army Chief for ending tensions among brother Islamic countries Iran and Saudi Arabia. 

Pakistan, which has suffered from years of militant violence, has killed and arrested hundreds of suspected militants under a major crackdown launched the North Waziristan tribal region in mid-June 2014.

Overall levels of violence have decreased this year following a nationwide military-led offensive against militants.
