SC disses tribunal's NA-211 verdict, Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi's case to be reviewed
The Supreme Court has turned the case back to the tribunal for reviewal
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) has annulled tribunal’s verdict that de-seated Federal Minister for Industries and Production Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi from National Assembly (NA) seat.
The court stated that Jatoi was not given his right to defend the alleged non-filing of taxes and details of assets during trial by the tribunal.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Saqib Nisar heard the plea that challenged election tribunal’s verdict in NA-211 Naushero Feroz. In court’s remarks, tribunal’s verdict is the ‘worst’ example of providing justice to the people.
University concerned has testified Jatoi’s degree, how could the tribunal term it fake, the court remarked.
Member of the National Assembly or any elected politician who conceals his assets should be dismissed from service however, Jatoi was not given the right to defend.
The Supreme Court has turned the case back to the tribunal for reviewal.
Earlier on January 23, an intelligence department in the early morning hours raided Jatoi’s house in Defence Phase-VII area of Karachi and placed three individuals under custody. The people who were taken in custody included two security guards of the residence.
Sources said that Jatoi was not at home at the time while detainees were shifted to an unknown location for interrogation.
The reason for the raid was not cited.
Residents of the area confirmed the raid at the minister’s house. The family of the federal minister refused to comment on the matter.
