The former PM held a meeting with his legal counsels ahead of the hearing

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday has granted former prime minister (PM) Yousaf Raza Gilani a seven-day protective bail after his arrest warrant was issued in eight corruption cases.

Gilani said that Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) raided his residence again on August 31. He expressed resentment in a meeting with his legal counsels before court’s hearing in the federal capital.

Karachi’s central judge had issued his arrest warrant in as many as eight corruption cases.

While talking to the media after court s hearing, he said that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) compiled cases against him. He said that Pakistan People s Party (PPP) respects judiciary and judicial proceedings. Gilani said that he has been the youngest PM of Pakistan. FIA can not take any action without government s permission, he added.

PPP s leader said that he had served five years in jail and that is why he worked against political victimisation during his tenure. As far as the Charter of Democracy is concerned, late Benazir and Nawaz Sharif signed the agreement and PPP upholds the charter to date, he added.

He said that PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari s statement was out of a dejected heart. He said that there could not be two different laws in one country. He said that PPP denounces corruption and the party is in favour of operation in Karachi. But, he added that PPP would not tolerate such serious allegations. Gilani said that he got to know about another case against him when he was in the IHC.

Party s senior counsel, Farooq H Naik said that PPP is a political victim in the matter.
