Interior Ministry has decided to postpone the hanging of Shafqat by another 30 days
LAHORE: (Web Desk, Dunya News) -- Shafqat Hussain, the alleged 23-year-old who was sentenced to death when he was reportedly 14 in 2001 on a murder charge, had his death sentence postponed on Friday.
Interior Minister Chaudary Nisar said on Thursday that Shafqat Hussain’s execution would be halted for 72 hours as his age was under dispute.
In the latest development, the Interior Ministry has decided to postpone the hanging of Shafqat by another 30 days.
Claims by an NGO arose when they released Shafqat s picture, which according to them were taken before his arrest. The picture can be seen below:
However, latest pictures obtained by Dunya News seem to suggest the contrary. The image below shows Shafqat Hussain’s mugshot at time of arrest which presents Shafqat in an older and more mature light.
Dunya News also interviewed people in his locality who knew Shafqat Hussain prior to his arrest who informed that the pictures released by the NGO were very old pictures and not of the time of his arrest. Some even said that pictures released by NGO were not Shafqat Hussain s, suggesting that the credibility of pictures released by the NGO was dubious.
