Police investigating the robbery suspect the involvement of some insider in the crime. They have collected statements and cellphone details of around two dozen staff members of the Edhi foundation.

At least eight robbers struck at the Edhi Centre, taking several staff hostage and threatening the organisation’s revered founder Abdul Sattar Edhi at gunpoint. They stole Rs20 million in cash as well as 5 kilos of gold.

Edhi, aged in his 80s, is one of Pakistan’s best-loved figures for his unstinting work providing ambulance services across the country and running shelters for women, children and the destitute.
