Letter to Chairman Islamic Ideology Council and 36 scholars seeks advice on Imran's eligibility.

LAHORE: (Web Desk/Dunya News) – Arsalan Iftikhar, son of former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, has written a letter to the religious scholars to seek an answer over Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan’s eligibility under Articles 62 and 63 of the constitution. The letter addressing Chairman Islamic Ideology Council and 36 Islamic scholars belonging to all sects requests advice about Imran Khan.

The letter says that Imran Khan has had relations with an American woman in the past and the relationship resulted in a child out of wedlock, named as Tyrian White. The letter further mentions that Imran Khan has never denied having relations with the lady nor has he denied the child. American courts have already decided the case against Imran Khan.

The letter requests advice of the religious scholars about the matter. It asks if Imran Khan’s action qualifies as an ‘immoral act’. And does this act not fulfill the definition of ‘Gunaah-e-Kabeera’ (grave sin)?

Arsalan Iftikhar’s letter also puts forward the question that if the act is a grave sin then does Imran Khan qualify for the membership of National Assembly under the Articles 62 and 63 of the constitution. Arsalan Iftikhar has said that the advice given by the scholars in response to this letter will be made part of the reference that he is to file against Imran Khan’s eligibility.

Arsalan Iftikhar had announced to move to courts against Imran Khan after resigning from his post as Vice Chairman of Baluchistan Board of Investment. Arsalan Iftikhar was made the Vice Chairman of Baluchistan Board of Investment by the Chief Minister of Baluchistan Muhammad Abdul Malick. After severe criticism by Imran Khan and various sections of the society, Arsalan gave his resignation from the post.

It is pertinent to mention here that Imran Khan had blamed the Pakistan Muslim League (N) led Federal Government to have rewarded the post to Arsalan Iftikhar because Arsalan’s father Iftikhar Chaudhry had allegedly aided PML-N to rig General Elections 2013. After resigning from the post, Arsalan Iftikhar appeared in various TV interviews and protested for being victimized by Imran Khan.

Later, Arsalan Iftikhar requested nomination papers of Imran Khan from Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on 7th of July which were handed over to him on July 11, 2014. Arsalan had announced that he would turn to religious scholars and seek an answer about Imran Khan’s candidacy after receiving the documents from ECP.
