Raiwind: Operation against Al Qaeda militants underway, cop killed

According to security sources, the militants belonged to Al-Qaeda group.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – An elite force official was killed and three others injured when militants and security personnel exchanged fire during a search operation in Raiwind, a town in the outskirts of Lahore.  

The security forces conducted a search operation in Arayian village on Raiwind Road on a tip-off regarding the presence of militants.

The militants were present in a house who traded fire when police reached the compound, one of the security officials said.

SP Sadar told media that the operation was underway since 2AM while intermittent firing that continued throughout the night was bring to a halt now.

Woman and two children were also present in the compound. The police have given militants several warnings to surrender, he added.

The official confirmed that an elite force personnel was martyred while two other security personnel were injured in the shootout who were taken to Jinnah Hospital.

The SP investigation directed the locals that they shouldn t go on rooftops.

We are investigating as to how the militants managed to enter the village, the SP investigation said.

One of the residents told that Hidayatullah named person took this house on rent few months back.

The heavily armed militants also hurled grenades from inside the compound.

According to security sources, the militants belonged to Al-Qaeda while women were also accompanying them. 

It is important to mention that PM Nawaz has his residence in Raiwind.
