Secret funds case: DG IB ordered to submit 'signed' reply

Earlier today, Attorney General submitted DG IB's written reply.

 

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Attorney General on Wednesday withdrew Director General Intelligence Bureau Akhtar Hussain Gorchani’s reply after the Chief Justice remarked that DG IB has used contemptuous remarks in the letter.

 

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of case pertaining to to the withdrawal of huge amounts of money from the IB’s accounts by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) governments for political purposes in 1988-1990 and 2008-09.

 

During case hearing, the Chief Justice remarked that letter submitted by DG IB does not contain consent of the law ministry.

 

In response, Attorney General Irfan Qadir explained that the letter was submitted after consultation with the law ministry.

 

On this, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that the letter is signed by the Attorney General and not the Director General of Intelligence Bureau.

 

The court ordered DG IB to re-submit the letter with his signatures.

 

Later, the case hearing was adjourned till tomorrow (Thursday).
