Sindh Assembly has adopted bill to revoke SPLGO, 2012 while restoring the Local Bodies Act of 1979.

 

The Sindh Assembly restored the Local Bodies Act of 1979 for the Sindh province on Thursday by revoking the Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance (SPLGO), 2012.

 

Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro announced that the government was withdrawing the Sindh People’s Local Government Act, 2012 during a Sindh Assembly proceeding on Thursday.

 

With the passage of the bill into law, now the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 1979 will stand revived in its original position of September 7 2012. The ordinance will come into force at once.

 

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) members staged an in-house protest after the law minister made the announcement. MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari termed the revocation of the SPLGO as injustice to the people of Sindh.

 

The treasure benched expressed jubilation over the passage of the law which restored the commissioner system by reviving the Sindh Local Government Ordinance of 1979.
