SC declares Ogra CNG pricing formula illegal

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has declared the CNG pricing formula devised by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) null and void.

 

A two-member bench of apex court comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja announced the verdict in CNG prices case on Friday.

 

Rejecting the old pricing formula, the court ordered the Ogra to fix new prices of CNG.

 

The verdict said that additional charges were included in CNG price, adding that the tussle between government and mafia violated the rights of masses.

 

The court said that Ogra is responsible to fix the price of CNG under the directives of government while safeguarding the masses’ rights.

 

The bench adjourned the hearing for indefinite period of time.

 

After the hearing, the Ogra chairman Saeed Ahmed Khan said that they will fix new price of CNG within 48 hours.
