Bar Councils and Bar Associations are holding protest meetings.

Lawyers are observing black day to condemn the imposition of emergency and promulgation of Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) on November 3, 2007 by the then general (rtd) Pervez Musharraf.The lawyers boycotted all court proceedings in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Pindi, Peshwar, Quetta, Sukkur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Multan, Gujranwala and other cities.Bar Councils and Bar Associations are holding protest meetings while black flags were hoisted on Bar buildings.During the period of emergency, the constitution of Pakistan was suspended till December 15.Former President Musharraf was also the army chief at that time who resigned from the latter position on November 28.The chief justice of Pakistan declared the emergency as null and void through an interim verdict and directed the army not to implement any illegal order of the then president.Soon after the interim verdict, chief justice and several other judges were suspended and kept under house arrest on Musharrafs order.However, after taking oath as president for a second-term, Musharraf announced to end emergency on December 16.
