KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other law-enforcement agencies in a joint operation arrested a terrorist involved in an attempt on religious scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani's life, Dunya News reported. 

According to CTD, the law enforcers carried out an operation in Soldier Bazaar and apprehended militant identified as Syed Muhammad Medhi.

The terrorist belonged to a foreign hostile intelligence agency - Zainabiyoun Brigade - and worked for a neighbouring country.

During the investigation, the arrested terrorist revealed that he would provide details of targets to his accomplices Raza Jafri and Abid Raza, adding his accomplices were actively involved in targeting and carrying out fatal attacks.

A CTD spokesperson said the arrested person had arms and ammunition obtained from hostile agencies. The suspected militant used hand-grenades and firearms to carry out targeted attacks, said the CTD. 

The suspect was also involved in illegal sale of weapons, the spokesperson said and revealed that the suspect’s aides were involved in attempts to murder Mufti Taqi Usmani and other religious personalities.

Further investigation is under way. The law enforcers have launched a manhunt for the arrest of other terrorists.
