Peru: Former president Fujimori sentenced for 7-1/2 years
Peru's Supreme Court has convicted and sentenced former president Alberto Fujimori to 7-1/2 years in prison on corruption charges. Fujimori was accused of illegally channeling some $15m in state funds to former security chief Vladimiro Montesinos, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for arms smuggling and corruption. This is Fujimori's third conviction. Earlier, a Peruvian court had sentenced him to 25 years in prison in April after finding him guilty of ordering death-squad killings and two kidnappings. In 2000 Fujimori fled after quitting the rule.
