Large riot breaks out in western Kazakhstan

A large riot has broken out between police and demonstrators in a town in western Kazakhstan.

Prosecutors said at least two police officers were injured in Fridays clashes in the oil town of Zhanaozen.According to unconfirmed reports from workers rights activists, some demonstrators may have died after coming under fire from police.Hundreds of workers at an oil facility controlled by the state-owned energy company KazMunaiGas have been protesting for better salaries and working conditions.Almost 1,000 workers have been fired for striking, but demonstrations have continued.
