Plane skids off runway in India

A Gulf Air passenger plane skidded off runway while landing in heavy rain on Monday.

The accident took place in the southern Indian city of Kochi, injuring one person, the airline said.The Bahrain-based carrier said the accident happened as the Airbus A320 touched down at Kochi International Airport.Gulf Air flight GF270 was carrying six crew and 137 passengers, including an infant, the airline said. All were evacuated.The injured passenger is an Indian citizen who was taken to the hospital for treatment. The carrier said his situation isnt critical but it wasnt immediately able to provide details of his injuries.Gulf Air said it is working with the authorities to determine the cause of the accident.Airline spokeswoman Katherine Kaczynska said there was heavy rain at the time of landing, and that part of the planes landing gear was damaged in the accident.
