Iran Guards 'kill' Kurd rebels in fresh clashes

Iran has claimed to kill several Kurd rebels in fresh clashes in Azerbaijan province.

Irans Revolutionary Guards continued their offensive against rebels from the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK), killing an unknown number of fighters.According to Iranian sources, several PJAK teams were eliminated near the towns of Piranshahr and Sardasht in Irans West Azerbaijan province, the elite force said in a statement.The PJAK terrorists fled from the scene after suffering heavy losses, and the corpses of the slain mercenaries were left in the area. The exact number of casualties was not known.PJAK rebels operate out of bases in Iraqs autonomous Kurdish region, and have been involved in deadly clashes with Iran for years.Iranian forces, in return, have repeatedly shelled border districts of their neighbours Kurdish region, targeting PJAK bases.
