US in search of alternative supply routes to Afghanistan

The Pentagon officials have started pondering over alternative routes for supply to Afghanistan.

According to a US newspaper, the US Armed Services Committee raised a question in a meeting that what strategy should be adopted if Pakistan suspends routes for supply of weapons and other products.The US has halved its reliability on Pakistani supply routes to Afghanistan from over 70 per cent to 35 per cent, given the volatile nature of the border areas where a number of NATO suppliers have come under attack.General William M Fraser of US Air Force told the Senate Armed Services Committee that approximately 35 per cent supply moves through the ground, and the other is moving through the Northern Distribution Network, coupled with also lift as we bring in supplies by air.
