Ban has been trying to speak with Assad all week but was unable to get through to him.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is not taking UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moons phone calls, the United Nations said.UN spokesman Martin Nesirky confirmed a report by an Arab news agency that Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had been trying to call Assad but was told that the president was not available.He added that Ban had been trying to speak with Assad all week but was unable to get through to him.Assad is facing international pressure to end a crackdown on anti-government protesters and recede powers.
