At least 53 people were killed and two million rendered homeless in Thailand.

The government disaster agency said that more than 40,000 people were living in temporary shelters in three provinces. The agency said on Monday that electricity was slowly being restored in the hardest-hit province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, where the majority of deaths occurred.Rail service remained severely disrupted in much of southern Thailand. Weather forecasts said scattered showers were expected across the region this week. The disaster agency said two million people in 10 southern provinces have been affected by flooding that started on March 23.
