(Web Desk) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau finally met the Syrian refugee baby who was named in his honour.
Two-month-old Justin Trudeau Adam Bilan is the son of a Syrian couple who fled war-torn Damascus to start a new life in Canada, The Independent reported. The boy’s parents, Muhammad and Afraa Bilan, decided to name their child to honour the prime minister for his open refugee policy.
The baby was photographed sleeping peacefully in the prime minister’s arms as they met at the Calgary Stampede on Saturday.
The Syrian family fled their country in February and took refuge in Canada where the baby was born a couple of months later in Calgary - a city near the Canadian Rockies which is home to around 1,000 Syrian refugees.
In December 2015, Trudeau greeted 163 Syrian refugees in Toronto, as the country prepared for thousands more arrivals. Since then 40,081 refugees have settled in the country, The Guardian reported. Trudeau personally welcomed the refugees at Toronto airport, handing out winter coats and greeting the newcomers.

However, the settlers find it difficult to find employment without being able to speak English. Canadian PM has been persistent in continuing the open refugee policy and has objected to US President Donald Trump’s policies about travel ban.
