Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama has announced his resignation. The resignation comes as Hatoyama has been under pressure after failing to fulfill an election pledge to move a controversial US base from the island of Okinawa. The former premiere also had differences with his cabinet which ultimately led to his resignation. It is pertinent to mention that ruling party struggled to revive its chances in an election expected in July.
