World Cup 2011: Magical Afridi bulldozes Canada with 5-wicket haul

Pakistan defeated Canada by 46 runs in their World Cup Group A match at R. Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lankan capital Colombo on Thursday.

Captain Afridi’s magical spell of 5-23 propelled the Green Shirts to the brink against the minnows Canada. Against a small total of 185 runs, Canadian batsmen failed to set another upset of the ICC World Cup 2011. Only Hansra scored 43 runs to put some resistance against the quality bowling. Afridi was declared as man of the match in the third consecutive match. Earlier, Pakistan team collapsed at a small total of 184 runs in only 43 overs against a minnows Canada. Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi won the toss and opted to bat first against Canada. No batman could make a fifty against the weak bowling side. Only Misbah (37) and Umar Akmal (48) showed some resistance. Baidwan picked 3 wickets while Cheema, Rao and Hansra took 2 wickets each. Pakistan made two changes from the team which defeated Sri Lanka by 11 runs last Saturday and also beat Kenya by 205 runs in the first game. Fast bowler Wahab Riaz and offspinner Saeed Ajmal make their World Cup debuts, replacing Shoaib Akhtar and Abdur Rehman.
