Peshawar Zalmi owner announces Rs2.5 million for boxer Waseem

Waseem successfully defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight title in Sunday's match.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Pakistani businessman and owner of franchise, Peshawar Zalmi of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Javed Afridi Monday announced Rs. 2.5 million for boxer Muhammad Waseem to acknowledge his services for Pakistan.

The announcement was made a day after Waseem defeated Philippines’ Giemel Magramo in Seoul, South Korea to successfully defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight title.

Known as ‘Falcon Khan’ for his swift boxing style, the 28-year-old outplayed Magramo in a tough 12-round fight.

The reward for him by Javed Afridi was announced in a message posted on Twitter.



Afridi also announced the Quetta-born boxer as Peshawar Zalmi’s ambassador.

"We will give him rousing welcome tonight at at islamabad airport at 10.30pm. Announce him as Zalmi s PSL ambassador, we back national heroes," Javed Afridi said. 

“He is a real hero and Peshawar Zalmi vows to sponsor him in upcoming events,” he added.

Waseem, Pakistan’s first professional boxer, had won the WBC silver flyweight title in July this year after defeating favourite Jether Oliva from the Philippines.
