Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani will leave on Tuesday for Sharm el Sheikh, to represent Pakistan at the 15th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), besides holding a key meeting with Indian Prime Minister on the sidelines. During his visit to the Red Sea resort from July 14-17, the Prime Minister will present Pakistans views on this years theme International Solidarity for Peace and Development, besides meeting several world leaders on the sidelines. Prime Minister Gilani will meet Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, in a bid to start the stalled peace process. Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit told that at the summit, the Prime Minister will address the heads of state and government at the NAM platform and will deliberate upon the solutions appropriate for confronting international challenges and also availing the opportunity to effectively participate in dispute settlement for maintaining world peace. On the sidelines of NAM summit, Prime Minister Gilani is also expected to hold meetings with the leaders of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and several other states. Pakistan joined the NAM in 1977 and is among the bloc of 118 member states, 16 observer countries and 9 observer organizations. The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is an international organization of states considering themselves not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. The purpose of the organization is to ensure the national independence, territorial integrity and security of non-aligned countries in their struggle against imperialism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, racism, and all forms of foreign aggression or hegemony. The NAM bloc represents nearly two-thirds of the United Nations members and comprise 55 percent of the world population, particularly considered to be developing or part of the third world.
