Supreme Court has sought a report regarding implementation on recommendations of Flood Commission.
A two-member bench chaired by the Chief Justice Ifthikhar Muhammad Chaudhry conducted hearing of the case regarding illegal breach in dykes.Justice Khilji Arif Hussain remarked that so many days have lapsed, but the flood-hit people are lying on roads without any protection or shelter.Government is doing nothing for restoration of these ill-fated people who have been thrown to streets at the mercy of fate and circumstances, the Justice added. While grieving reference to the Railway’s pensioner who passed away last day, the Justice said that the issues faced by masses were lying unresolved despite a large number of government institutes.Advocate General said that opportunist elements broke dykes during flood, turning its flow and direction to the lower areas. This is the actual reason of the devastation carried out by floods.Additional Secretary said that some elements were becoming obstacles in the way of operation against encroachments. The Justice ordered the Secretary to submit the names of the people who had become a stumbling block in this regard. He said that the Flood Commission had pinpointed many weak points in their recommendations. If those recommendations and directions had been acted upon, a heavy loss could be avoided, the justice concluded.
