Political parties wrangle while Karachi mourns its dead

In a time span of seven days, 114 were targeted by illusive killers in Karachi.

Four people have already been killed in fresh wave of violence today.In Shah Latif area one person was killed while a corpse was found inMalir Gharibabad. According to the police the victim was shot dead. A corpse stuffed in a sack was recovered in Liyari. In SukkerShahi, Sarafa Bazaars and markets in Shaheed Gang remained closed.In Rohri, motorcyclists forced shopkeepers to shutdown their shops. Tando Allahyar also remained closed. A strike called by a political party has largely crippled Pakistans largest city as the death toll from roughly a week of violence hit at least 114.Businesses, schools and government offices are closed in Karachi, while public buses and taxis are staying off the roads.The citys lead political party, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, called Tuesdays strike in protest of recent violence.City police chief Saud Mirza says at least 10 more bodies were found overnight, some stuffed in sacks. Gangs allegedly linked to rival political parties are suspected in the bloodshed.Karachi, a city of 18 million, has a long history of political, ethnic and sectarian violence.
